    7. Reports & Discussion Items

    7.1 Measles Case in Ohio

July 5, 2024 : The Butler Country General Health District (BCGHD) has confirmed a case of measles in a child under one years old residing in Butler County. This case acquired measles through international travel and returned to the US through a Chicago-area airport and then returned to Ohio via car.
Public Health officials recommend unvaccinated individuals 1 year and older receive a measles vaccination to protect themselves and those around them.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that is spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough and rash. There is no specific treatment for measles.
Children should receive their first dose of the measles vaccine between 12 and 15 months of age; another dose at 4-6 years of age. The measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine is generally first given at 12 months of age in the United States, but is sometimes recommended for children as young as 6 months of age who are traveling outside the United States or could be infected in an outbreak.

    7.2 2025 Budget Discussion

Preliminary budget numbers are prepared.  Our "ask" from the city will definitely be more than last year. We are planning to purchase a new vaccine refrigerator and moving to a new electronic medical records system through the Local Public Health Collaboration in Ohio.  Final numbers (percentage of increase) for health insurance is usually determined in November.  Last year, the number was given to us on November 14th.  Leanna is preparing for a 20% increase; however, last year it was only increased by 5%.   Discussion on GCHD personnel percentage raises for 2025.

7.3 West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes
Jennifer Frazier REHS, Director of Environmental Health
