Galion Board of Health Meeting

Suzanne Binau, formerly of Avita Health System, requested support for the campaign of a tri-agency partnership for which she is currently contracted to be Grassroots Coordinator. The partnership includes representation from the American Cancer Association, American Heart Association, and American Lung Association, and work is being done to achieve an increase in taxes on cigarettes of $1/pack, an equalization of other tobacco products tax, and use of 12 cents of the proposed $1 increase for tobacco prevention and control. Ms. Binau advises there is similar legislation in committee right now; the campaign aims to encourage moving the legislation from committee and passing it in both houses. Rep. Jeff McClain is a key legislator on the issue.

Flu clinic held October 6; immunized a total of 150 adults and children.

Dr. Sarah Metzger of Avita Health System has agreed to become the Medical Director for Galion City Health Department beginning October 14, 2014, pending Board approval.  

Ms. Joette M. Moore, RS, has agreed to work as an independent contractor performing food inspections in Galion from October 14 through December 31, 2014, pending Board approval.
