4. Public Comment

Minutes

Discussion on updates to House Bill 110; Tom has been in talks with Reineke's office and spoke with Adam.  Has been told that they are introducing an amendment to remove the language directed at small city health departments from the budget bill.

Support from AOHC on last ditch efforts was emailed out on June 4, 2021.

The month of May was not closed out yet.

Three pieces of legislation will be presented at the council meeting tonight regarding the fact that some grants will now need their own funding lines.

More discussion on possibly having health department representation at the meetings when involves us.


6. Reports

6.1 COVID-19 Updates

Discussion regarding COVID-19 situation.

Discussion regarding the current state of Covid-19; Governor DeWine to continue LHD's to push vaccinations; 200,000 doses of J&J vaccine to expire June 23rd-use any means to try to use it.  GCHD has created cards for the Fire department EMS to give to possible homebound, elderly, low income people that meet our SVI.  The cards state that they may call in and we will bring vaccine to them if needed.

Mayor brought up the fact that CARES ACT dollars may be possibly used to incentivize remaining people to vaccinate against Covid-19.


7. Old Business

7.1 PRN Appointment

Kara Kimerline has begun completing employment paperwork.  She has yet to start working as it will be on an as needed basis.

7.2 Appointment of a Health Commissioner

Discuss the hiring of a full time health commissioner

Opinions were voiced on the selection preferences of the candidates, each having their own strengths.  House Bill 110 was also brought into the discussion suggesting to delay the health commissioner appointment  until after July 1.

After much discussion on the pros and cons of each candidate, it was decided to change the existing by-laws to allow for it to match the language in the Ohio Revised Code, in regards to qualified health commissioner candidates.

A Motion was made change the Board of Health By-laws by removing the current health commissioner qualifications and replacing the health commissioner qualification to match the Ohio Revised Code which does not require an M.P.H. or master's degree to hold the position at the city level.

Ms. Burgin agreed to reach out to the applicants and let them know that the position wasn't going to be filled at this time.

After discussion and comparison of the two school contracts, a motion was made to modify the Galion Saint Joseph school nursing contract to match the rates in the Galion City School nursing contract, and to accept all contracts, including that amendment.
